Looking back now, it feels as though I’ve lived two lives, stitched together by curiosity, grit, and the hope that something different was possible.
I started in Manipur a place rich in culture and tradition, but not yet on India’s tech map. Opportunities were scarce, but dreams were not. While many around me prepared for government jobs, I found myself pulled into design, code, and the magic of the online world. Freelancing wasn’t even a familiar word back then. But the thought of creating something for someone miles away and being paid for it sparked something I couldn’t ignore.
How It All Began
When I moved to Pune for studies and later stepped into the corporate world, I carried that spark with me. After work hours, I spent evenings experimenting tinkering with HTML, building simple websites, and playing with WordPress.
At the time, WordPress was seen mostly as a blogging tool. But for me, it became a playground, a way to build and learn. Those little projects weren’t just hobbies they were the first signs that freelancing could be more than a side hustle.
The Dilemma: Job Security vs. Passion
The corporate job offered comfort. Every month, the paycheck arrived right on time a reassuring safety net when responsibilities loomed large. And yet, the routine felt monotonous, almost like living on autopilot.
On the other hand, freelancing was exciting a chance to work on diverse projects, learn new skills, and connect with people across the globe. But it was also unpredictable. No guaranteed paycheck. No HR policies to shield you. Just me and the work.
I remember nights when I came close to resigning, hovering over the “send” button on my resignation email. But the thought of financial obligations rent, bills, family kept me tethered to the corporate chair a little longer.
So, I continued both worlds: office by day, freelancing at night and on weekends. It wasn’t easy, but it kept my dream alive.

After years of balancing, I knew I couldn’t stay split forever. I had to choose.

That’s when the gym and football became my anchors. The discipline of lifting weights taught me consistency. The camaraderie of football brought me energy and balance. These routines kept me grounded, even when client deadlines piled up or when the uncertainty of freelancing felt overwhelming.

This journey hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been real. Here are a few truths freelancing taught me:
